Special Educational Needs (SEND)

Watling Lower School is an inclusive school and is committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment, with a high-level of aspiration for all children. We recognise the diverse and individual needs of our pupils and believe that early identification and support of any special educational needs or disability (SEND) is an essential component of our effective teaching and learning. At times, this may mean that some children require additional support, adjustments or adaptations to their physical and/or learning environment to enable them to reach their full potential. If you have any queries regarding your child's learning and are concerned that they may have additional needs, we encourage you to speak in the first instance to your child's class teacher, who will be happy to discuss your child's progress and address any concerns.

The Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCo) for the school is Joanne Keane. She works closely with teaching staff and school leadership to raise educational achievement by leading and coordinating provision for pupils with special educational needs throughout the school.

Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) policy  outlines in further detail how our school identifies pupils with SEND and assess their needs; our provision for pupils with SEND and how this is implemented in school; and how we access external support from specialised professionals including accessing support from the Local Authority.

Our most important partners in supporting children with additional needs are those who know them best: parents and families. The SEND policy also outlines how we will work with parents and communicate to ensure that we have the best possible understanding of each child and can personalise any support plans to them.

Our SEND Information Report provides further details of how our team at Watling Lower School supports children with additional needs and their families and is produced alongside guidance from the Code of Practice for Special Educational Needsset out by the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
